The DoPent pentagonal face milling cutter incorporates double-sided inserts with five cutting edges on each side. The design of the cutter combines a thick-style insert with the company’s SS-Fit system that improves strength around the insert hole to increase insert density. The cutter has a wide clamping aspect that gives the insert stability and extends tool life under heavy cutting conditions. This combination expands the machining range of the cutter. The cutter can mill at greater depths of cut and feed rates to increase metal removal rates, compared to similar products, the company says.
 
The cutter is available as a shell or shank type cutter with the shell type having a coarse, close and extra close insert pocket position that can accommodate from three to 20 inserts depending upon the required diameter and material to be machined. Sizes range from 2.0" to 6.0" in diameter and are suited to machining a variety of materials, including low- and high-carbon steels, alloy, tool and stainless steels, grey and ductile cast iron and aluminum alloys with a hardness level as high as 300HB. The company has developed a series of inserts specifically for this cutter to machine this diverse range of materials.
